Geocities To Be Made Available As a 900GB Torrent

A group cleverly calling themselves ‘The Archive Team’ has announced that they will be releasing an approx 900GB archive of Geocities on bitorrent. It doesn’t have every single site, but they think they got most of it. The team believes that it’s important to not just delete our digital culture, and as crazy as Geocities may have been, it was an important cultural milestone in the history of showing that anyone could create content online.”

But if you’re getting an itch to make a Geocitiesque site, good news! Over at http://wonder-tonic.com/geocitiesizer/ Wonder tonic has made a converter, that will convert any old site into a terrificly bad Geocities site! Just pop in the URL and magically any website is “Geocitized”! Give it a run, I can see some web designers using this for future site upgrades!

On a side note, I had a Geocities page once apun a time… I wonder if it was ever archived? I wonder if I even remember the url anyway…. I can’t remember the name of the other one…. Does anyone remember another Geocities clone, that was bought out by geocities? It wal called a million something or something… and it was moved to geocities….
