Starburner, The next Nero?

Posted By +Jason On 14 Jul 2009. Under Free Software

*SPYWARE ALERT* Since I first reviewed this software they are now bundeling spyware with it. Please be advised that the new version of this software will HiJack your start page. It’s not too difficult to get rid of, and it’s not the worst spyware I’ve ever seen, but it replaces Google with a Fake Google and smears google with ads. That’s about all it really does, but I still don’t like it. Removal was pretty easy, I just deleted the program from startup.

I would still use this software if it were not for this, I will review a new CD Burner App in the next few days…

Nero has long surpassed Roxio (Formally Adaptec’s Baby) Easy CD Creator, but as time has gone along, all the awesome updates and added features are begining to turn the King of CD Burning software into another Adobesque Bloatware giant. This leaves a gap between software that does too little and software that does too much.If you’re not producing home videos and burning them to cd and want a great VideoCD DVD HD-DVD Bluray software suite that well, just does what it’s supposed to do, then starburner may be what you’re looking for. Nero Burning Rom has everything and it updated frequently. But who really want to use their burning software to index your computer’s files, or replace your media player? Much less pay for it!

StarBurn by RocketDivision is the answer we’ve been waiting for.  Some Pro’s in a short list for you.

  • It’s Free
  • El Torito (bootable CD/DVD/Blu-Ray/HD-DVD). With this feature it’s trivial to create custom recovery optical media. Use CD/DVD/Blu-Ray/HD-DVD as a very big floppy boot disk
  • DVD9 → 2 DVD-R(+R) convertion. In this mode StarBurn will backup dual layer stamped DVD9 DVD-Video disc into a pair of two DVD single layer recordables. These days a pair of two single layer recordable discs is still cheaper then single double/dual layer recordable. StarBurn will allow you to save quite a lot when making backup of you home DVD-Video collection.
  • I used the ISO featuers, and It made ISO’s a snap to burn, create, or dump from a disc.
